Here at Kettering Motorist Centre we are certified and trained to service and repair hybrid vehicles!
Conventional cars use petrol or diesel to power an internal combustion engine. Hybrids also use an internal combustion engine, but they also have an electric motor and battery, and can be partially or fully powered by electricity. This means that they achieve much better fuel efficiency than conventional cars. There are numerous types of hybrids, including petrol-electric hybrids, diesel-electric hybrids, and range-extender hybrids. All hybrid cars offer excellent fuel economy, low CO2 emissions and cheap road tax!
Hybrid cars combine an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors. The battery of a hybrid is usually charged by being plugged in, but a series-hybrid uses the engine to supply constant power to the electric motor, bypassing the battery. Range-extender hybrids are essentially electric cars that use an engine as a generator to top ip the battery.
Since the Toyota Prius came out in 2000 sales of hybrids have increased dramatically, and with over 40 hybrid models available to choose from, it's not surprising that Hybrid cars are now very common on UK roads!
